AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ ERRORS IN PRONOUNCING THE ENGLISH “TH” SOUND Ө/ AND/ð: A STUDY AT THE FOURTH SEMESTER OF ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OF STATE ISLAMIC INSTITUTEOF KERINCI

English is an international language. Because of a variety of English spoken in different parts of the world, there is no purity of pronunciation. Therefore, many people often come across alternate pronunciation and mispronunciations. The problem is that students do not know the difference between TH sounds and often misinterpret words that contain th sounds in the fricative sound. So based on the background above, the researcher obtained the following problems eighty percent of students majoring in English in their fourth semester mispronounce the sounds TH and t in English, this is based on a questionnaire that the researcher distributed through the fogle form by choosing the correct pronunciation answer. And the lack of understanding of English so that fourth semester students majoring in English often make mistakes in pronouncing TH. This research is a Mix Method research. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, questionnaires, documentation, then analyzed using test analysis techniques using SPSS data and descriptions. The purpose of this study was to find out An Analysis Of Student Errors In Pronouncing The English “TH” Sound (Ө/ and/ð) (A Study At The Forth Semester Of English Department Of State Islamic Institute Of Kerinci). as for the research results are the frequent habit of omitting consonant letters, then some sounds in English have not been like "th" are not yet in the large Indonesian dictionary, the vowel and consonant system in English contains many sounds that are different from Indonesian and finally students lack of learning and practicing these words in everyday life.
