Deskripsi/Abstract
The purpose of this research is to insvestigate the correlation between language learning strategies and self-efficacy beliefs in speaking English among English Department students of State Islamic Institute of Kerinci the academic year 2023/2024 academic year. Language learning strategies are essential tools used by students to enhance their English proficiency, while self-efficacy beliefs play a significant role in their confidence and ability to speak the language effectively. The research employs a quantitative correlational design to determine whether there is a significant relationship between the strategies used by students and their self-efficacy perceptions in speaking English. Additionally, the study examines which strategies are frequently and rarely used by English students and assesses their self-efficacy in speaking English. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to a sample of English Department students, focusing on the use of cognitive, metacognitive, and social strategies, as well as their confidence in speaking English in various contexts.The findings reveal a significant correlation between language learning strategies and self-efficacy in speaking English. It was also found that English students tend to use cognitive strategies and exhibit a high level of self-efficacy. The results of this study are expected to provide valuable insights into how language learning strategies influence students' self-efficacy in speaking English.Furthermore, the study offers recommendations for educators to enhance teaching methods that encourage the use of effective strategies and boost students' confidence in language learning. These findings may also contribute to the development of more tailored learning strategies that help students overcome challenges related to speaking English.
