This article is intended to analyze the role and position of religion in the Rencong Telang customary conflict in Kerinci Regency, Jambi, which has given rise to the dualism of customary institutions. There are two points of concern that will be high lighted in this article. First, religion and customs are facing an acculturation crisis. Second, efforts to commodify religion in winning the contestation. This study uses qualitative data obtained through interviews, observations, and document studies and then analyzed descriptively.

The jihad resolution initiated by the founder of Nahdlatul Ulama( NU), Haddratus Shaykh Hashim Asyari, at the beginning of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia (October 1945), proved successful in moving the Islamic masses to fight the Dutch invaders who tried to return to ride the allies in Surabaya. An unequal battle against a heavily armed foreign army The question is, why did the resolution of jihad work? What factors can mobilize the Muslim masses so as to welcome the resolution of jihad?

This article provides an explanation of religious dynamics in the aspect of fiqh in Kerinci, Jambi. There are many religious groups and organizations in Kerinci that compete for influence and authority. From all of that, Persatuan Tarbiyah Islamiyah (Perti) is not very prominent as a structural organization, but its role in the cultural area is very decisive. Therefore, this study wants to see how the fiqh transmission pattern played by Perti is structurally and culturally, and how the fiqh authority works in the crowd of religious organizations and groups.

Penelitian ini memotret secara gamblang bagaimana model konflik sosial terjadi antara korporasi besar dengan masyarakat yang relasi sosialnya sangat solid, kuat dalam memegang teguh adat istiadat. Konflik ini dimulai pada perebutan sumber daya ekonomi berupa tanah masyarakat/adat yang akan dijadikan lahan untuk pembangunan perusahaan yang terletak di bagian selatan Kabupaten Kerinci, Provinsi Jambi. Di tempat lain, konflik selalu saja melibatkan masyarakat dan korporasi secara langsung. Konflik terjadi head to head.
